Our mission

What happens when the game ends?

At Beyond the Helmet Institute, we prepare student-athletes for life beyond the game through a transformative 12-week development program centered on mental wellness, leadership, financial literacy, academic and career readiness, and character development. By combining athlete growth with intentional parent alignment and family engagement, we create a unified support system that helps young people build confidence, accountability, emotional resilience, and life skills that extend far beyond sports. Our mission is to develop disciplined, purpose-driven leaders who understand that success is not defined solely by athletics, but by integrity, education, wellness, and long-term impact in their families, schools, and communities.

FROM THE PROGRAM

What the 12-week experience sounds like

Hear from mentors and athletes who have worked through the curriculum and seen the shift happen.

The part that stuck with me was the career readiness module. We mapped out a path that had nothing to do with sports, and that changed how I see my future.

Marcus Williams

High school athlete, Detroit

I came in thinking this was just another talk. By week six, I was leading a small group session on mental wellness tools. The shift is real.

Jayrad Johnson

College athlete, Detroit

As a mentor, I get to watch these kids realize they have value beyond the field. That moment — the one where they see it — that's why I show up every session.
